Creating a silhouette

For our preliminary task of 'Four, Five Seconds' we needed to create a silhouette to try and replicate the actual video. Firstly, we inserted our clip, we then added the 'keyer' from the effects list on Final Cut and applied it to our clip and added the 'matte view'. We then inverted the colours to make it black and white. We watched the youtube video below to help our understanding of creating a silhouette.  adding the 'matte view':  inverting the colours: Finished product:

9 Frame Analysis

1. Beyonce - Countdown The first shot in our 9-frame analysis of Beyoncé’s’ Countdown is a close up shot of Beyoncé singing. We would like to incorporate many close-up shots into our music video as it gives a personal and emotional element and as our song choice is emotional and powerful – close up shots would be perfect.  The second shot is a mid-shot featuring a green screen with black and white stripes. In our music video, we will be using a green screen to add various backgrounds to our music video. A mid shot will be very useful in our video as our performers will be dancing and singing and a mid-shot will be able to show our performer fully.  The third shot in our 9-frame analysis is a split screen with Beyoncé singing / dancing in every section. This shot is very busy and Grace and I wanted to do something similar around the chorus of our music video when the song is more upbeat rather than an emotional part. The fourth shot is again, another collage. This sho

Audience expectations

Lauren and I recently interviewed 5 members of our target audience, to give us a better understanding of what they would expect from a music video of the pop genre. The information we received was very useful, as we gained a better insight of our target audiences expectations. Some of the people we interviewed had contrasting views on what they would like to see, including the colour grading we would use. Many wanted to see monotone shades of black and white to mirror the singers feelings and lyrics, whilst others wanted to see bright colours to make the video more visually appealing. Despite this we will take both ideas into consideration when making our music video. We found when interviewing our target audience, all of them wanted to see an element of dance to reflect the ideas presented in the lyrics. We will therefore defiantly incorporate this into our final music video.

Preliminary Task

For our preliminary task, Lauren and I decided to re-create the music video 'four, five seconds', by Rihanna, Paul McCartney and Kanye West. Our aim was to try and replicate the exact shot from the real music video. Although it did not turn out exactly the same, we are still pleased with our final result as we did learn a lot from doing this, which will help us with our final music video. In terms of pre-production, we spent a long time researching popular music music videos in the 'pop' genre. We used Youtube to look at a variety of music videos including: Budapest, Alesha Dixon and Four, Five, Seconds. We decided on 'Four, Five, Seconds' as it had shots and editing techniques we wanted to try and use i.e. colour grading and silhouette effect. Using a online website we created a detailed storyboard of the first minute of 'Four, Five Seconds' which included pictures of each shot we wanted to replicate and how long they will be shown for. In terms of l

Lip syncing practice

Before we did both our preliminary task and real thing, we decided to practice our lip syncing on final cut, so we had experience using it when it comes to creating our real music video. We used the song 'Love story', by Taylor swift as we thought it was quite a popular song and also easy to learn.

Experimenting with silhouette's

Lauren and I are trying to re-create the first minute from 'four, five seconds' for our preliminary task. It begins using a silhouette of Rihanna singing. We thought before we did our preliminary task we should try and learn how to create the same effect. Although it didn't look the same, we still liked the outcome and would therefore like to use it still.
