The history of music videos

As part of my research and planning, I am going to look into the history of music videos. I will look at 5 artists music videos and compare their most recent and successful music videos with thier eldest ones. Whilst doing this I will evaluate how the music videos have developed and changed but also, whether there are key features and motifs which are still used in old and new music videos. Rihanna- Unfaithful 2006 and Wild thoughts 2017 Immediately, you can see a clear change in Rihanna's music videos and how they have developed in the past 11 years. The location is probably the most dramatic initial change which shapes your view on the rest of the video. 'Unfaithful' begins with a much longer introduction setting the scene for the narrative, which is to take place in what looks like a dressing room where she remembers flashbacks of a boyfriend. This scene is also much more simple, and although it has changing locations it presents a much more realistic life...

Research and planning-collage

After looking at a large amount of iconic shots from different music videos within the pop genre, the key feature which reoccurred in almost every shot was the use of the close-up shot on the artist. As well as this, I recognised a large amount of the shots were in black and white (especially the more recent ones). I will therefore aim to incorporate this into my music video.

Inspiration for our Music Video

Countdown  I really liked Beyonce's music video, 'Countdown', not only because dancing which I would like to use, but also the effective editing techniques. At points the screen was split into multiple sections, each of which had different colours and actions. I would really like to incorporate these elements into my music video. The audience Beyonce attracts through the brand she has created are similar to my target audience, therefore by incorporating the same editing techniques and style of her music video I will meet the demands of my target demographic. Thats what I like I began looking through current popular songs and Bruno Mars 'Thats what I like' was included in this. Initially looking at it I didn't find it very interesting, however I really liked the animations in it and would therefore like to try and recreate something simi...
