Inspiration for our Music Video

I've watched a number of music videos recently, all of which had aspects I could incorporate into my music video.

Countdown
I really liked Beyonce's music video, 'Countdown', not only because dancing which I would like to use, but also the effective editing techniques. At points the screen was split into multiple sections, each of which had different colours and actions. I would really like to incorporate these elements into my music video. The audience Beyonce attracts through the brand she has created are similar to my target audience, therefore by incorporating the same editing techniques and style of her music video I will meet the demands of my target demographic.

Thats what I like
I began looking through current popular songs and Bruno Mars 'Thats what I like' was included in this. Initially looking at it I didn't find it very interesting, however I really liked the animations in it and would therefore like to try and recreate something similar.

Four, Five seconds
Unlike some of the other music videos I looked at, this one was a lot more simple. However I would really like to use the close up shots and black and white colour grading used in the video. I also really liked how the music video began with a black silhouette of Rihanna singing, which I would like to recreate.

What now
Both Lauren and I really liked this song so we would therefore like to use some of the editing effects used in it. For example the layering of the images which looked really visually effective and we would therefore like to create something similar in our music video.

Final Music Video

Below is my final music video:

First Filming session

Today, Lauren and I had our first filming day. We had planned to film all our shots, which were in front of the green screen. Initially we found it difficult to fit the whole of our actor in the frame of the camera as not only was she was moving horizontally across the green screen but she had her hands vertically above her head, making it difficult to fit the whole move in the shot. However we were able to easily and effectively solve this problem by moving the camera back during the filming and then cropping the screen during the editing process. When filming we made sure we used our storyboard so we knew exactly what we were creating, however we also filmed extra shots incase they were needed in the editing stages. These are some photos of Lauren and I whilst filming our first shots.

Evaluation 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Below is the script: At A2, the music video brief meant that our research of real media texts had to be much more extensive and on a larger scale. My group and I watched a huge range of films from the dance genre, especially Sia’s, ‘Chandelier’, but most significantly many Beyoncé’s music videos, including ‘Halo’ and ‘What now’. However, watching so many music videos from this genre, led me to notice the difference between narrative and performance. This led us to do a considerably larger amount of research- looking into different types of music videos to identify typical media conventions, which is much less genre defined as A2.   Therefore, like ‘What now’, our music video had a combination of both performance and narrative, which put a distinctly contemporary spin on our music video. However, our researched was not just limited to one genre, like it was at AS. Watching other music video’s like Miley Cyrus’ ‘Malibu’ and Goyte’s ‘Somebody that I used to know’, we d...
