Magazine Advert Research

Typically, music artists like to use magazine adverts to promote their new music album or their tour. As well as creating a website, Lauren and I would like to create a magazine advert for our performers album and decided to do some research to help us.

Beyonces magazine advert is of course, visually attractive and appealing however as a result of the dull colours., the advert fails to grab the audiences attention.

Although this is not a magazine advert but for a tour, Rita Ora's advert is definitely one of our favourites. This is due to the bold, bright colours and sizing of the font which immediately grabbed our attention. Rita Ora is the focal point, placed in the middle of the advert which makes sure that it is known it is her tour. The MTV logo is placed at the top of the screen so that the target audience knows who her record label and can easily identify her genre of music.

Taylor Swifts album advert was not particularly eye-catching. Although it uses the same features as Rita Ora's e.g. Bold, Large Font it is not as visually attractive. The vocal point of the advertisement should be Taylor swift, however the mid shot is not very effective and does not draw the audiences attention. If the shot were to be a close up of Taylor Swift with a more interested facial expression and location, it may have a greater impact.

Calvin Harris' album advert immediately caught Lauren and I's attention. We believe that this is due to the yellow background which is such a bold and interesting colour which you would naturally be drawn to look at. The image, although unusual is very unique and orders our attention.

Final Music Video

Below is my final music video:

First Filming session

Today, Lauren and I had our first filming day. We had planned to film all our shots, which were in front of the green screen. Initially we found it difficult to fit the whole of our actor in the frame of the camera as not only was she was moving horizontally across the green screen but she had her hands vertically above her head, making it difficult to fit the whole move in the shot. However we were able to easily and effectively solve this problem by moving the camera back during the filming and then cropping the screen during the editing process. When filming we made sure we used our storyboard so we knew exactly what we were creating, however we also filmed extra shots incase they were needed in the editing stages. These are some photos of Lauren and I whilst filming our first shots.

In depth analysis of magazine adverts

The Killers- Wonderful, Wonderful Although 'The Killers' music comes under the 'rock' genre, many of their songs also fall under the pop genre, which my music video 'What Now' does. When analysing their album cover I firstly looked at the colours, which had a simple yet aesthetically pleasing colour scheme of light pink, blue and white. Although these colours are not typically associated with rock music they amplify the album name 'Wonderful, wonderful'.  Furthermore when considering the album is rock I was also surprised by image on the album- a hand holding a shell with the blurred unfocused background appearing to be a beach. When reading the magazines target profile it stated that it 'delivers a monthly dose of iconic photography to an audience of extremely passionate music consumers'. The photography in this particular album directs the audiences attention to the focus point of the image- the light pink shell which seems to cont...
